You may have been overcharged for Google Search ads. Here is what to do about it.

Mark Beckett and Marshall Silver of Silver Arbitration Law join Ash Melwani of Obvi on Chew On This to walk through what the courts found, why nothing happens by default, whether a brand could qualify, and what a claim takes — using Obvi’s own account as the example.

Webinar recording: You may have been overcharged for Google Search ads. Speakers Mark Beckett and Marshall Silver, hosted with Chew On This, recorded 22 October 2026.

What the session covers.

  1. What the courts found

The 2024 and 2025 rulings, the three auction mechanisms described in the court record — format pricing, squashing, rGSP — and why the findings matter while the cases are on appeal.

  2. Why nothing happens by default

The government cases sought changes in conduct, not damages. Google's terms send disputes to individual arbitration, so no one files on a business's behalf — and why smaller businesses have mostly stayed out.

  3. Could your brand qualify, and what a claim might be worth

US-targeted Search spend since August 2016, at least $10,000, with access to the account — including inactive ones. What is excluded, and an illustrative worked example of claim value.

  4. What your team would need to do — with Obvi as the example

Three steps: review and sign the engagement, give read-only account access, and the firm prepares and pursues the claim. Walked through on Obvi's own Google Ads account.

  5. Common worries, and next steps

Is this a public lawsuit against Google? Will Google retaliate? Will this take weeks of our time? Does stopping advertising disqualify us? Then questions from the room.

Who you will hear from.

Spent $10,000 or more on US search ads since 2016? The account is worth a look.

An assessment costs nothing and does not involve contacting Google. Two short steps: answer a few questions about the account, then review the engagement letter.
